I am re-doing my dining room chairs and would like to know if 5lb. density 2.5 in. memory foam would be a good choice or should I just go with medium firm 2.5 in. regular foam. I am going to wrap the foam in batting before I put the fabric on the chairs. Also would 2.5 inches be thick enouph or should I do 3 inches? Please give details as to which foam would be better and why.
I would stay away from memory foam for dining chairs.
Folks move around, get up, sit down too often for there to be any benefit to having memory foam on a chair, and I can see where it would be a major PITA (literally!) to not be able to turn in my chair comfortably or to have to "REsit" myself in the molded-to-my-bottom cushion after getting up to get more rolls, or whatever.
I’d use regular medium density foam and I wouldn’t use more than a 2" slab of it… especially if you’re going to wrap the foam w/ batting before applying fabric.
If the cushion is too high/bulky you risk folks having to dangle their legs off the edge of the chair (think of Lily Tomlin’s "Edith Ann" sitting in the big chair), or having an uncomfortable pressure point at the back of their thighs that could cause legs to go numb.

Trying to decide if we should buy one.
I do not own one- yet. But have surveyed 20 people on Ebay who’ve bought them- and every single one of them LOVES theirs. The only thing I DON’T like- is that while they imply that the mattress will never develop any memory effect, if pressed, they tell you it will not develop a "significant" permanent impression- by that, I believe they specify 1-1.5 inches. To me, that’s a HUGE indention. Unfortunately, all those I surveyed on Ebay- hadn’t had theirs long enough to attest to long-term performance.
These days Memory foam mattress is quite famous. Memory Foam Mattresses are being used all over the world, not only for their comfort but also for all the health benefits they provide. Largely it has revolutionized our life. Actually, NASA had created first memory foam mattress. There purpose behind creating memory foam mattress was quite different. NASA started this program to help the astronauts so that they may reach the heaven with having profound night’s sleep. They started heading towards this creation with the aim of creating such foam that would be able to sense the body temperature and body weight as well. These researchers were trying to create such memory foam that would have the quality to gently conform to the shape of the body. That would enable an astronaut to have coziness. Such kind of foam would provide a perfect amount of support for a long period. This whole research was aimed at helping daring astronauts to grab the space and boldly go where none had gone before this.
This mission gained momentum in the early 1970’s by NASA’s Ames Research Centre. This mission was very sanguine about creating such foam that would be able to help astronauts to overcome G-forces during the lift-off of space shuttle etc. The specialists of NASA’s space program created a new foam material known as visco-elastic and that foam material was able to conform to a person’s shape. Some people think that memory foam mattresses have some business with memory that is wrong. Memory foam mattresses do not have a memory but the cells of memory foam mattresses get deformed by evacuating the air when they are suppressed. Now NASA does not have monopoly over the Memory foam mattresses. These days, memory foam mattresses are being produced for commercial purposes. Fagerdala World Foams of Sweden is the first company that started producing memory foam mattresses for commercial purposes in the year 1980. In the year 1992, the same product was launched in North America and similarly, received excellent results.
With the success of Tempur-Pedic, other foam manufacturers in Canada and the United States began to develop their own visco elastic memory foam material to offer Mattress. Upholstering and specialty product companies allow consumers a wide variety of products and prices to choose. Now many other companies have surged to produce memory foam mattresses and now anyone can think of buying memory foam mattresses. Many medical institutions especially for osteopathy and physiotherapy purposes are using memory foam mattresses as memory foam mattresses have unique quality that improves blood circulation and help to reduce the sores that are caused due to pressure. These memory foam mattresses also give relief to those patients who bed ridden either due to burning or due to thief illness. Memory foam mattresses are no less than a boon to those who do are deprived from enjoying profound sleep and go on tossing and turning in the night and in the morning too present a sluggish look and feel drowsy in the day.

The memory foam mattress was only launched in the market in the early 1990’s which makes it a fairly new material in terms of the bedding industry. It is capable to support each area of your body evenly so that your spine stays in a neutral position the throughout the night. This mattress material can minimize pressure points which in return helps to reduce tossing and turning while sleeping, the main reason people report loss of sleep.
Memory foam mattresses are made of a blend of natural and synthetic materials which are designed to be allergy free and hypoallergenic, as well as dust mite resistant. This makes memory foam a natural choice for allergy sufferers and the health conscious alike. It is naturally inhospitable to dust mites, as they prefer open, damp spaces with natural materials on which they may feed. Memory foam does not have open spaces for the mites to live in, does not retain heat moisture, and is not composed of cotton, all of which deter and prevent dust mites from residing beneath you. When you compare these statistics to an innerspring mattress, which has large open spaces, retains heat and moisture, and is often composed of cotton pillow-top which retains skin cells (dust mite’s favorite food), than it almost makes the memory foam beds seem like a no-brainer!
You do not have to rotate or flip a memory foam mattress because it does not use springs, but is supported by foam which will remain resilient for years. Based on several studies, people who have use memory foam mattress sleep soundly and better than those who use the normal coil bed. Because of this reason, thousands of doctors and other specialists have suggested to patients to use it to avoid bad sleep which is often linked to disorders such as narcolepsy, obesity, poor concentration, increased stress, insomnia and irritability.
All memory foam mattresses are not the same. They vary in density, thickness and quality. There are less expensive alternatives, you can use a high density polyurethane foam mattress topper, which is designed to relieve pressure points in the same way that a memory foam mattress does. If you are going to buy a memory foam mattress, it is significant that you select one that has sufficient memory foam on the top layer, typically 3-6 inches is good. The memory foam mattress pad or topper is a reasonably priced way to improve the sleeping exterior of your bed, provided it is in decent condition. Memory foam pads don’t cost very much when compared to the cost of an actual mattress set. But the comfort they provide, will make you feel like you are sleeping on a cloud and can come close to simulating the feel of an actual memory foam bed.
One great advantages of a memory foam mattress is its sensitivity to weight. For someone of lighter weight and small stature, 3” of memory foam on the mattress should be sufficient where as a larger individual may need up to 6” of memory foam for proper support and contouring. Memory foam is designed to become softer with heat, and heavier areas like hips and shoulders exude more heat allowing them to sink further in therefore keeping the spine aligned and the lower back supported.
The Tempurpedic foam mattress has the ability to return to its original shape and can provide better comfort and orthopedic support. As a dense memory foam mattress reacts with body heat, it will consequently, within seconds, form around the shape of the body. The Tempur Pedic is suitable for all weights so you don’t have to buy a firmer mattress for someone heavy and a softer mattress for someone who is lighter, but larger persons may be more comfortable with a thicker layer of memory foam on the mattress.
Everyone wishes to find the perfect mattress for the best night’s sleep, but there is not any “one-size fits all option”. There are various types of mattresses available in the market including coil mattresses, latex foam mattresses, memory foam mattresses, air mattresses and traditional mattresses. The internet is probably your most valuable tool when it comes to getting the most mattress for your dollar.
There are various mattresses companies offers variety of mattresses depends on the materials. Perhaps the best approach would be to go to local stores to try out the different types and styles of beds, and then use the internet and ads to find the best deal on what you want.
Be sure to know the size of your bed or what size you want and if you have a platform style bed or need a foundation, as these conditions may affect availability and pricing. Measure your mattress from head to toe and side to side and take this with you.
Memory foam mattresses are the latest type of mattress launched in the market. Memory foam mattresses are manufactured by using specially designed foam, which has unique properties. This memory foam is specially created to ease the body while sleeping. Memory foam mattresses are truly a unique material and quickly becoming a consumer favorite. There are number of brands available in market so take some time and research your options before you buy, as the most recognized brand may not be the best solution.

I just bought two memory foam pillows, and i was wondering if i can wash them in the washer machine and dryer? And are memory foam pillows cleaner then regular pillows or do they trap just as much dust and stuff as a regular pillow?
No, do not put them in the washer or dryer, you will ruin them. To clean them scrub the outside with a damp cloth. If they are good quality memory foam, they will not collect any dust or dander because it is too dense.
i just bought something of off of ebay an i thought it was a memory foam mattress and it says its a visco elastic and memory foam topper?i dont know what that is
Pretty much one in the same. Memory foam is made from polyurethane with additional chemicals that add to its viscosity level, thereby increasing its density. It is often referred to as visco-elastic polyurethane foam. Depending on the chemicals used and its overall density, it is firmer in cool temperatures and softer when warm. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memory_foam
