ALL memory foam IS NOT THE SAME! A brief look at how our memory foam products are made & the difference in quality.

Hello I just recently bought a queen size memory foam mattress that’s ten inches thick and a platform bed to go along with it. I like the set up quite a bit but the only problem is that memory foam mattress, being very light, slides around quite easily on the platform bed. I was looking for some suggestions to help remedy that problem without actually changing the design of the platform bed, ex. adding a raised border.
Go into your local home depot or lowes and pick up a non slip pad. they’re intended for rugs. but can be used underneath a mattress to keep it from sliding off a foundation.

One of the most important factors that affect a person’s health — arguably as important as food itself — is getting the right amount and quality of sleep. Promoting good memory and enhancing concentration are just two of the benefits that we get from a good night’s sleep. It is also during sleep that our body repairs cells damaged during the day. Although scientists have not come up with specific answers as to exactly why people need sleep, a number of studies have proven that chronic lack of sleep can increase a person’s risk for developing a number of serious medical conditions, among them diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular problems.
It is for this reason, perhaps, that memory foam mattresses have become a big success. Of course, who wouldn’t want to be free of all the aches and pains that we feel as soon as we wake up each morning? This new type of material ensures a good night’s sleep due to the fact that the foam follows the contours of the human body when in use, thus reducing pressure on a person’s back, shoulders and legs. Because the memory foam is now known to the public as the material used in creating some sort of “magic mattress” and is mainly being used in the bedding industry, it is surprising to know that it traces its origins back to NASA.
In the early 1970’s, NASA was in search of something to relieve astronauts of the g-forces that assault their body during lift-off. They figured that they needed a foam material that would hold the conformity of a person’s body shape but can also accommodate any movement that person makes. Hence, they invented a visco-elastic material which returns to its normal shape as soon as pressure is removed.
Enterprising businessmen soon rushed to find the perfect consumer use for this new product, and in 1991 Swedish mattress company Tempur-Pedic succeeded. They came out with the first line of memory foam mattress and introduced it in the Swedish market. The success of that launch led to a project expansion in North America and the rest, as they say, is history.
The material goes through quite a complicated process before the correct weight and density is achieved. Although it has been certified to be non-toxic, the foam can emit a certain smell that remains for about a couple of weeks after it is taken out of its packaging. If you are sensitive to strong odors, it would be best to air out the room for at least a couple of days. You can also try placing a dish of vinegar on your night stand.
Whatever the little inconveniences such as an unfamiliar odor, consumers are definitely reaping the rewards of the NASA researchers’ ingenuity and the Swedish company’s business acumen, as people are getting better quality of sleep from this magic mattress. As it is introduced to more and more markets and reaches global popularity, it is hoped that the memory foam mattress will deliver its promise of better sleep and better health.

I know that these memory foam toppers smell after opening. However, the smell has persisted beyond 72 hours. Is it really harmful to breathe this stuff in?
It will probably last for about 2 months. Its not really harmful but some people are more sensitive to smells and might get a headache from it.
I just bought two and see that the removable covers can be washed. Would like to know if the actual memory foam is washable. Am assuming that it would have to be a hand-wash, a machine wash would probably ruin them.
Don’t wash memory foam. Not even hand wash.
Memory foam mattress and coil spring mattresses are two major forms of mattresses that are extensively being used to sleep on. However, when the question arises which one is more superior then commonly answer that comes is memory foam mattress. Actually, a memory foam mattress possesses many features, which are not to be found in a coil spring mattress. When we talk about the difference between the two, the first difference that comes out is regarding their durability. A normal coil spring mattress can suffice your purpose for about five years or little more. However, a memory foam mattress can last ten years easily without any compromise and there are some memory foam mattress producers which offer guarantee even up to twenty years.
In addition, promise you comfortable and restful sleep without any compromise. Other property of memory foam mattress that excels it to coil spring mattress is its capability to adjust to the different temperatures. Memory foam mattress can respond to different temperatures of your body and provides you complete sense of coziness. Your body weighs the most and is the warmest part of you and the mattress makes itself softest for your body, whereas your arms and legs are lighter and cooler, so the foam is a little more firm- this is very comfortable, not so much lying on the bed as floating on it! Coil spring mattresses do not have any such feature. They are neither temperature sensitive nor they conform to your body weight. Due to temperature sensitivity of memory foam mattresses, they can no doubt help a person who is confined to bed due to fever and is having high body temperature, while coil spring mattresses do not possess such feature. I think it would not be wrong to say that sleeping on coil spring mattress is like sleeping on rusty nails. Earlier, it was OK as we did not have enough options. However, now this is not the case and mattress market provides you various options.
Another feature of memory foam mattress that coil spring mattress does not have is that it provides gentle total body support. A coil spring mattress forces your body to adjust to the springs. It is like pushing your body. You are pushing the springs down to get comfortable and they push just as hard back no wonder many people wake up with aching muscles and stiffness. Memory foam mattress moulds itself to your body, because your body exerts its force into it yet your mattress does not push back, it gently accommodates you and your weight. As a result, when you lie on the mattress you feel very relaxed. If you find an opportunity to try these both kinds of mattresses, I am sure you will favor memory foam mattress.

i had a puppy who would always pee on my memory foam. it cost 900 so i cant throw it away. how to remove the smell and stains? thanks
i have a memory foam mattress which my dog as used it since i got him. the cost 900 dollars so i cant throw it away. how do i take out the smell and the stains?
thanks
I have used a product called "OUT!" to remove cat urine from my couch with great success. It is an enzymatic cleaner that removes the stains and odors as well. It also works for feces, blood and vomit (both human and pet alike). It is relatively inexpensive, and can found in the pet aisle. Pour it on and let it saturate the mattress. I used the hand attachment of my carpet cleaner to extract the liquid. Let it air dry well and you’ll be good to go!
Good Luck!
